My name is Eric Moro. I was born an identical twin by my mother and father who were both immigrants that came to the United States seeking a better future for their children. I started my journey to serve others while I was still in high school. I volunteered my time serving at-risk youth as a wrestling coach in the same youth wrestling program I was a part of at the local Boys & Girls Club. As a son of poor immigrant parents, a single mother working two jobs, and a father who had to return home before I can even remember, I was an at-risk youth myself. With the grace of my wresting coach who took me in as his own, I became one of the program's first state champions by the age of thirteen, while maintaining a 4.0 in school. From a very young age I felt the need to pay forward the love and commitment that others gave to me. The strength, courage and discipline that was instilled in me through my mother and the sport of wrestling served as a catalyst to my military career.
When I joined the Army Infantry, I excelled far beyond what anyone expected, including myself. I earned two Army Achievement Medals, two Good Conduct Medals, made the Commandant's List at two different leadership schools I attended, and made the rank of Seargeant, despite facing racism and discrimination at every turn. After two combat tours in the Middle East, I was diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety, so I understand firsthand the struggle of living with a mental illness. Fortunately for myself, I was surrounded by people who cared about my health and well-being. I was mentored and guided through my recovery to the point where I was able to overcome my illness and pursue my life's calling. It is for this reason that I found a renewed sense of duty and passion to pay forward what others had given to me.
I went on to graduate from the University of Southern California with a master’s in social work and earn my professional license. I have been certified in Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Problem-Solving Therapy, as well as supplemental training in Trauma-Informed Practice, Mindfulness and Acceptance Commitment Therapy. I have worked as a Clinical Case Manager, Peer Support Specialist, Foster Youth Therapist, and Medical Social Worker in a hospice setting. I am a husband and a father of two beautiful children. It is my desire to help as many people as I can overcome their own struggles with mental illness and reach their full potentials. I hope that you will allow me to join you and your loved ones on your journey to recovery and be part of the realization of your full potential.
